From the early 1950s, Drs Basser and Eisen operated the medical centre when the area was first subdivided from market gardens. In the early 1960s, Dr Kevin Green and Dr Redford Wright-Smith operated the clinic. Their strong links with the local Catholic community and their support for the local health services was instrumental in the building of Moorabbin Hospital (now an integral part of Southern Health).
In 1996, Dr Alan Molloy, who had worked with Dr Wright-Smith and Dr Green for many years took over the business on their retirement so that Eastbound Clinic could continue to provide high quality medical care to patients and the local community.
Medical practice has undergone a transformation in the last decade. Once it was sufficient to practice from a few rooms in a converted house, without the use of computers, with minimally trained staff and with very basic facilities.
Today, a medical practice must ensure it meets stringent quality control standards, have highly skilled medical staff, business managers, receptionists and nurses. It must also utilise the resources of the latest knowledge in information technology.
Facilities must meet the needs of both patient and practitioner. Facilities essential for a modern general practice include car parking, comfortable waiting rooms, equipped treatment rooms with sterilising facilities, well designed consulting rooms, comfortable, safe and secure staff facilities, conference rooms, disabled access for both staff and patients, sophisticated information technology infrastructure and communication systems.
In July 2005, after 3 years of careful planning, one of the best equipped, modern medical practices was completed. The New Eastbound Clinic provides a new standard of excellence in medical practice facilities and care. Excellence in patient comfort, excellence in staff facilities, excellence in treatment room facilities, excellence in computer infrastructure and communications systems, excellence in professional development of all employees, excellence in practice management, and excellence in believing in what we do is worthwhile, and effective and rewarding for all involved.
Welcome to the New Eastbound Clinic and the future of successful General Practice.
