Dr Alan Molloy was born in Noumea in 1956. His father, John Molloy, a WW2 Veteran, was an executive with Mobil Oil and travelled extensively. His mother, Dr Maureen Molloy, is a Neuropsychologist, specialising in medico-legal consultancy and, now in her 81st year, completing a Law Degree at Melbourne University. She raised 7 children, one with a severe disability.
Alan excelled at school in both academics and sport. At the age of 13 he started to find it harder and harder to hear what was being said around him. It was at this early stage that it was discovered that he had a congenital hearing condition and that he was about to lose a considerable degree of hearing. However, this was no deterrent to the fire in the belly of this young man to learn, to achieve and to engage in the world around him.
After completing secondary school Alan went on to study Medicine at Melbourne University, completing his degree in 1982. Not long after graduating, he went to Tibet to assist in the setting up of hospitals and providing medical care to the local people of Nepal and Tibet. This early experience in the mountains of Nepal, not only motivated him to pursue further studies in Obstetrics, but it had a life changing impact.
His experiences in Tibet, lead him into an area of his life that he has been dedicated to for the last 27 years; Tibetan Buddhism, the pursuit of justice for Tibetans and the pursuit of compassion for all. Alan his been instrumental in the organisation and co-ordination of the International Tours of the Dalai Lama to Australia and New Zealand. He lectures on many aspects of Buddhism and is seen by the Tibetan community as a role model, leader, teacher and someone who can make a difference in the world around him.
Alan came to General Practice in 1992, whilst also working at Peter MacCallum in East Melbourne. His mentors in General Practice were Dr Kevin Green & Dr Red Wright-Smith. In 1996, Alan took over Eastbound Clinic from Kevin and Red and thus began his life as the owner of Eastbound Clinic.
Alan has special interests in Palliative Care, Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Removal, Antenatal Care, Complex Medicine and Chronic Illness. His patient population ranges from expecting Mums to the critically ill. As an employer he believes every staff member is valuable. He promotes further education in all staff members and over the years has been generous in providing financial assistance to all of his staff to achieve qualifications in their respective areas.
He values the contributions that each staff member makes and in return he has a team of staff that are dedicated to Eastbound Clinic and its pursuit of excellence in General Practice.
Alan is married to Jenny and has a beautiful daughter, Grace who is 7.
