Dr Justine Birchall graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1993. Her original inspiration to study medicine had been the long term desire to deliver babies.

After choosing to leave the big city hospitals to spend time in a regional hospital with more significant general experience (Geelong Hospital), she revised her plans towards a career in general practice. Part of her long term plan was to be able to combine a career in medicine with raising a family, and family medicine seemed to be an excellent way to achieve this.

Before leaving Geelong Hospital to concentrate on the General Practice Training Program, Justine completed her Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology so that she could offer comprehensive women’s health care as well as shared care obstetrics.

After completing her GP training in towns such as Timboon, Point Lonsdale, Drysdale, and Bannockburn, Justine returned to Melbourne. Responding to an advertisement on a notice board at the College of GPs, Justine was drawn to the friendly and caring atmosphere at Eastbound Clinic.

Dr Birchall has been able to maintain her interest across the breadth of general practice, enjoying caring for patients before birth and even through the final stages of life. She has a keen interest in preventative health care, particularly related to immunisation, nutrition, prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer screening. She has additional training to support patients with mental health illness. Most of all, Dr Birchall enjoys the supportive team approach to providing the best care for her patients.

Dr Birchall is a vibrant and popular doctor. Her caring and conscientious manner has earned her the respect and admiration of both patients and colleagues. Justine is married to Andrew and has two gorgeous sons, Alec and Marc, and an adorable daughter, Emma.
